London born, Dallas based artist and designer, Nosheen Iqbal, produces artwork and accessories with a new approach to handmade artistry. Combining natural and modern materials with an age old technique to create an innovative form of visual art. Soft, vibrant threads and colorful pigments create a contrast against the natural grains of solid woods, bamboo and veneer.
i absolutely adore this quilt that i found on the blog two straight lines. it's such a clever idea of turning the quilt squares into blocks and the embroidery embellishments couldn't make it anymore perfect. vroom vroom.
look at these wonderful wire pieces i found through artstream. leigh pennebaker creates miniature wire fashion sculptures for stores such as barneys, fragments, saks fifth ave and kiehls. she successful captures the gestures and forms of female fashion divas using just many pieces of wire.
among those artist who inspire i would have to say uk artist lizzie finn ranks pretty high. she creates wonderful stitched collages like this one that she made for the vitra design book.
i love seeing all the painted edges of my wood pieces all together. each on is 1 inch thick and painted a contrasting color. my embroidery pieces are now available at vitamin d(esign). you can also see my portfolio on trunkt and i have a few pieces on etsy.
i've been working on some new wood embroidery pieces but this time i'm using ash veneers and experimenting with linoleum cuts. heres one of my pieces without the embroidery...
my friend shay just posted about our all time favorite designer orla kiely. she has become known for her signature stem pattern which has been seen on cushions, wallets and dresses.
she has now designed a pattern exclusively for the tate gallery in london.
i'm not sure whether its the colors, the composition or the style but i just adore angie lewins prints. its a shame all the ones i love are sold out but she has a dozen more available. lewin also produces wonderful textiles available at st. jude.
at the top of my list of people that i admire the most would be lucienne day. a pioneer in modern design, has produced over seventy designs for heals alone.
